Armour Battalion crowned 2024 MDF Drill champions

SALIMA-(MaraviPost)-For the first time  in the history of Malawi Defence Force (MDF) drill competitions, Armour Battalion formerly known as Support battalion from Mvera in Dowa district has on Friday scooped first position in this year’s competition.

The event took place at Malawi Armed Forces College in Salima from May 2 to 3, 2024.

In his remarks, Commanding Officer for the winning unit, Lieutenant Cornel Kisa Kadaluka thanked the parade team for the win.

“I am extremely happy for us being champions of this years MDF drill competition. It is not easy but it only shows of the efforts and dedication we had put in, and I am proud of that,” he said.

In his speech, MDF commander General Paul Valentino Phiri highlighted the importance of the drills.

“These drills reinforce discipline, smartness and team work. These are critical aspects needed for excellence in the military,” he said.

For the win, Armour battalion walked away with K3.5 million, a trophy and golf shirts.

During the annual competition,  Changalume barracks (9 MR) claimed second position while Malawi Maritine Forces came third.

Major Bob Harry Kamwendo who is commander of the winning team won the best commander award.

Subalterns of the winning team were Captain Bright Mwale, Lieutenant Vincent Mataka and 2nd Lieutenant Mbelamu Kamisa.

CSM was WO2 Limbani Chikoti and CQ Ssgt Stan Chithyoka while on supernumeraries, were Sgt Richard Banda, Sgt Joseph Smega and Sgt Foster Chimsembe.

Among other guards from position four to eight on the finalists were 3 MR (Moyale Barracks), 2 MR (Kamuzu barracks), Administration Lilongwe, Zomba Airbase and Malawi National Service (MNS).
