…Double Action Ladies 4-0 Ntopwa

By Edwin Mbewe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-In this year’s CAF Champions League | COSAFA Qualifiers, Malawi’s Ntopwa Super Queens, making their debut, were eliminated after a 4-0 defeat to Botswana’s Double Action Ladies.

The Amagheto Kids needed nothing less than a victory to secure a spot in the semifinals.

However, it was not meant to be, as Double Action Ladies secured their win with goals from Lesego Radiakanyo (2), Oteng Oganeditse Bonang, and Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse.

Playing in the tournament for the first time, Ntopwa lacked experience, struggling to maintain possession in all three games.

The team also conceded simple goals in their opening matches against Lesotho Defence Force and Green Buffaloes FC.

After the match, Ntopwa Super Queens FC head coach James Sangala acknowledged the defeat and attributed their early exit to their players’ lack of experience.

Sangala has pledged to strengthen the team for the next edition and recruit experienced players ready to rise to the occasion.

Ntopwa finished at the bottom of Group A with one point.

Double Action Ladies topped the group with 7 points, tied with reigning champions Green Buffaloes FC, but with a superior goal difference.

Lesotho Defence Force, who also suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Zambian Champions, finished third with 1 point.

In the Zambia vs. Green Buffaloes FC match, the Soldiers from Zambia opened the scoring with an own goal from Ntsatsi Khakanyo, only to be levelled at the 42nd minute by an own goal from Memory Nthala.

Green Buffaloes FC secured the winner at the 81st minute through Esther Banda, with Lushomo Mwemba being named the Player of the Match.

Both Green Buffaloes FC and Double Action Ladies have secured spots in the semifinals, where they are likely to face South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns FC and Costa Do Sol of Mozambique.

Meanwhile, Young Buffaloes FC and Olympic De Moroni have been eliminated from Group B, even if they win their final group games.

The champion in Durban, South Africa, will earn a spot at the continental showpiece scheduled for Ivory Coast in November this year.
