Galaxy FM reporter Dickson Gondwe conducting a draw while Kazima (R) looks on
Standard Bank has rewarded 92 tobacco farmers in the fifth draw of its ongoing Mlimi Alirenji promotion.
Launched in April 2016, the promotion aims at rewarding tobacco farmers with competitive rates on their dollars, while giving them an opportunity to win farm inputs and tools to support their next season’s production.
Speaking during the fifth draw of the promotion, Standard Bank’s Head of Sales (Global Markets) Gray Kazima said the bank is overwhelmed with the response from farmers since the launch of the promotion.
“We are encouraged by the interest that the tobacco growers are showing in Mlimi Alirenji Promotion. This proves that indeed Mlimi Alirenji Promotion is the solution to the issue of farmer income from tobacco, as it is only through Standard Bank that farmers are able to get more Kwachas for every tobacco dollar processed through Standard Bank,” said Kazima.
Kazima said the prizes being splashed out are designed to support tobacco production thereby helping farmers to deal with high rejection rate at the market.
“Through Mlimi Alirenji Standard Bank is committed to pay more Kwacha for all tobacco dollars processed through the bank. We therefore expect tobacco growers to take advantage of the remaining three draws to deposit their proceeds with Standard Bank to earn more at the same standing a chance to win the prizes including the grand prize of brand new tractor,” said Kazima
The grand prize for Mlimi Alirenji promotion is a brand new tractor valued at K16 million. Other prizes that are being won every fortnight are baling jacks, hessian sacks, and solar power banks for charging phones, t-shirts and caps.
To date a total of 460 tobacco farmers have won various prizes aimed to support their tobacco production.
