Health Insurance provider MASM saw declining profits in 2015 According to CEO Sidney Chikoti

 

Blantyre, June 28, 2016: One of the Malawi’s medical Insurance service provider, Medical Aid Society of Malawi (MASM) has reported a net profit of K471 million in 2015.

Lilongwe based businessman Chigamula bails out area 50 Students by donating K600,000 for school projectThe Lilongwe based businessman Lefnos Chigamula has given out a whooping K600,000 to area 50 community, to help in procurement of land meant for the construction of the School.

Students in area 50 have been going to Bvunguti in order to access primary education.

Travelling to Bvunguti was not easy because of a busy road in between which runs from Kanengo Industrial area to area 49, joining bypass Lilongwe West bypass road.

Speaking during a function, where Chigamula was handing over the cash, chiefs commended him for the job well done to the community.

But speaking to a group of reporters soon after the ceremony, Chigamula said he was happy that he was associating well with the community in the area.

“I felt bad when community approached me to help in soliciting funds to buy land for the construction of the school since the community has been losing a lot of children who were being hit by the cruising vehicles whenever going to Bvunguti Primary School.” Said Chigamula.

Chigamula has also been passionate in uplifting the lives of the youths in the Lilongwe City Centre Constituency where he has grown and is living.

Just recently, Chigamula launched K300,000 Chigamula Pool League and K700,000 football league.

Malawi gets $80M additional funding from IMF to mitigate drought induced Hardship

According to Reuters reporting, The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will increase loans to Malawi by $76.8 million, the global lender said on Monday following an economic review of the drought-hit country.

Standard Bank completes ‘47 minutes’ classroom painting

Standard Bank employees have completed painting of 10 classrooms in Lilongwe and Blantyre under an initiative dubbed ‘47 minutes CSR’ to commemorate 47 years of doing business in Malawi.

who led the employees said the exercise is a continuation of Standard Bank’s commitment to promote quality education in Malawi.

“To celebrate our 47 years in Malawi, employees undertook a 47 minute painting of classrooms in Blantyre and Lilongwe under the “Happy Classrooms” project by BONGO, an education NGO. We are proud of our progress in the 47 years, but we must never stop moving forward, and as a bank we are building the next generation of bankers by investing in the education sector,” he said.

He said Standard Bank is active in contributing to Malawi’s education, a sector where it is building new primary schools, renovating vocational colleges and providing scholarships for university students.

“We have also entered into a partnership with UNICEF for an initiative in which the bank’s employees provide mentorship to girls aimed at motivating them remain in class,” he said.
