LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has lauded his Botswana counterpart Advocate Duma Gedion Boko and Malawians for great Independence Day Celebrations.
Chakwera expressed satisfaction on how the nation celebrated the nation’s 61st Birthday on Sunday, July 6 at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in the capital Lilongwe.
Writing on his Facebook page this morning, The Malawi leader says, “The epitome of Malawi’s 61st Independence Day celebrations came to full manifest at the Bingu National Stadium yesterday. The colourful occasion was graced by our special Guest of Honour, Advocate Duma Gedion Boko, President of the Republic of Botswana.
“Commemorated under the theme; “Restoring Broken Foundation, Taking Malawi Forward” the celebrations offered an opportunity for every citizen to cherish self-determination as a catalyst of sustainable development”.
Chakwera adds, “We must, therefore, remain obliged to advance national goals to chart our path into the future with clarity of collective purpose.
“The same purpose that motivated our founding fathers and mothers during the Independence struggle should persuade us to build a self-reliant and inclusively wealthy Malawi for ourselves and subsequent generations”.
Unfortunately, opposition political parties shunned the independence celebrations.
