Lilongwe came alive on Saturday as the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) staged a massive campaign and manifesto launch at the Bingu National Stadium.

The event drew thousands of party supporters from across the city and surrounding districts, transforming the capital into a sea of red and black as MCP members paraded with energy and enthusiasm.

Supporters from areas such as Area 25, Area 49, and other nearby locations marched through major streets, singing party songs, waving flags, and drumming in celebration as they made their way to the stadium.

The parade was a demonstration of the party’s strength and grassroots support ahead of the September 16 general elections.

At the stadium, the atmosphere was electric as the crowd awaited the arrival of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and First Lady Monica Chakwera, who officially launched the party’s 2025 manifesto.

The launch showcased the party’s new campaign agenda, built around key pillars such as food security, job creation, wealth creation, governance reforms, and public service delivery.

Popular musicians including Dan Lu and Skeffa Chimoto performed at the event, entertaining the crowd and encouraging the youth to rally behind President Chakwera’s vision for the country.

Senior party officials, including campaign director Moses Kunkuyu, praised the MCP government’s record in infrastructure development, health, education, and anti-corruption reforms, urging Malawians to renew Chakwera’s mandate.

The event was not just a political gathering but also a cultural celebration, with traditional dances, live performances, and speeches highlighting the party’s achievements and future plans.

Security was tight, with the Malawi Police Service and the Malawi Defence Force ensuring that the parade and the event proceeded peacefully.

Observers described the launch as one of the largest political events in recent years, signaling the MCP’s determination to secure victory in the upcoming polls.

With 59 days remaining before Malawians cast their votes, the Lilongwe event marked a crucial moment in the official campaign period.

As the sun set over the capital, the mood remained jubilant, with supporters expressing confidence in Chakwera’s leadership and pledging to turn out in large numbers on election day.
