LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera this morning left the country for the United States of America, where he is expected to attend the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
UNGA is expected to be held at the United Nations Headquarters, in New York from 20th to 27th September, 2024.
Addressing the media before departure at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA), President Chakwera said will take advantage of the General Assembly to share notes with fellow leaders on the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“We will be discussing the future together as countries in order to help everyone. When we say nobody should be excluded, no one left behind, it means that no country can truly prosper without helping others prosper too,” he said.
During his stay in America, Chakwera is expected to attend the summit of the Future and the high-level meeting on the Miombo Forest Declaration, and also attend a high-level meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance, among several others.
The Malawi leader is also expected to deliver a statement during the UNGA General Assembly to mobilize global support for Malawi’s developmental priorities.
President Chakwera is also expected to hold bilateral talks with various Heads of State and Governments to continue advancing Malawi’s diplomatic relations and economic partnerships towards the implementation of the Agriculture, Tourism and Mining (ATM) Strategy.
