LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera on Friday, April 19, 2024 dared Malawians to spread good news for their country.
Chakwera said it’s time for a mindset change. The president said it’s sad we have people who are always bent on tarnishing the image of other countries.
Chakwera made the appeal when he opened the Agriculture Investment Conference at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC), in the capital Lilongwe.
The President cited the US Government tarnished the image of Malawi publishing names of some individuals deemed to have been banned from visiting the USA.
Chakwera rebuked the development saying there is a high crime rate in the United States of America happening every five seconds but no one is talking about them.
The president said this is happening because some Malawians are also busy tarnishing the same image of the country.
“This is why I am appealing to my fellow Malawians let us start promoting our own national agenda,” he said. The president has since appealed to Malawians to invest in farming.
“We are encouraging youth and women to be independent, we are encouraging mega farm’s, we have been assured of the market these are the issues which can change Malawi,” he said.
The Chakwera-led administration is hosting the first-ever Agriculture, Tourism and Mining (ATM) Promotion Week, which is running from April 19 to Saturday April 27, 2024 and will feature the Agriculture Investment Conference, an International Tourism Expo and a Mining Investment Forum.
The conference is in line with the ATM strategy – a brain child of President Chakwera, whose objective is to achieve food security, enhance international markets and stimulate job creation through industrialisation.
The conference is aimed at wooing Malawian mega farmers to invest in commercial farming introducing them to various profitable agricultural value chains and their markets.
