MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-A source in UTM who opted for anonymity has disclosed the party’s plans to partner with Kondwani Nankhumwa of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the 2025 presidential election.
This comes after the party carried out an evaluation of it’s performance since the 2019 election.
One of the key findings is that the party has been sidelined by the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) with which it came into partnership remove DPP from government.

“We have noticed that if we stick with MCP we are very likely going to lose the support we worked so had to build on the grassroots. Hence our plan to partner with Hon Nankhumwa who’s also the leader of opposition. UTM and DPP are cousins.
“We see nothing that holds us back from working together and as UTM endorses Nankhumwa ahead of the convention that is slated for any time soon in DPP, Nankhumwa will emerge victorious. By UTM and DPP working together, MCP stands no chance,” reveals the source.
The source however did not hint as to what leadership arrangements were made once the partnership was formed.
However, he indicated that both parties namely Nankhumwa and Chilima were aware of the arrangements and it is on their behalf and directive that these talks were being made.
An attempt was made to speak with Chilima but he could not pick up his phone.
However, Nankhumwa refused to comment on the matter.
