Chilima suspends Machinga whistle stop tour over political violence

MACHINGA-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Vice President and Tonse Alliance runningmate Dr. Saulos Chilima on Friday, June 5, 2020 suspended his tour of Machinga due to the violence.

Speaking through his spokesperson Pilirani Phiri, Chilima has condemned what has happened in Machinga.

The UTM leader Chilima therefore urged people to react by voting for the Tonse Alliance leadership during the forthcoming fresh presidential polls.

The Malawi VP has therefore since asked Tonse Allaince supporters to remain calm and not avenge what has happened to his entourage in Machinga today.

Sources told The Maravi Post that suspected UDF young democrat created volatile situation at Nselema in Machinga armed with Pangas who blocked roads and burning tyres.

Malawi is expected to hold fresh presidential elections on June 23, 2020 following Constitutional Court (ConCourt)’ s February 3, 2020 nullification of May 21, 2019 polls.
