BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Chimwemwe Chipungu, has resolved a long-standing land dispute between Thyolo District Council and residents of Namtipwili Estate in Traditional Authority Vumbwe.
During the meeting on Saturday, March 14, 2036 ,the minister facilitated negotiations that resulted in a mutual agreement to fairly share the disputed land between the council and residents from the surrounding communities.
The breakthrough has brought relief to many residents who had been seeking a lasting solution to the matter for years.
Speaking at the gathering, Chipungu stressed the importance of dialogue and responsible land management in resolving conflicts and preventing similar disputes in the future.
“We must always prioritize peaceful engagement when dealing with land matters.
Government remains committed to transparency and fairness in land administration so that both communities and local authorities benefit,” he said.
Muhammad Selemani, who attended the meeting on behalf of the Land Commissioner, echoed the minister’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for cooperation and proper land management to avoid similar disputes in the future.
Officials from Thyolo District Council and community leaders were also present and witnessed the agreement.
The resolution marks a significant step toward restoring harmony between the council and residents while promoting orderly land administration in Thyolo District.
Local leaders expressed optimism that the agreement will strengthen cooperation and support development in the area.
