Dead ACB directors Vehicle recovered and secured amid accusations of Police incompetence

2 Min Read

The Malawi Police and ACB have now secured the remains of the car which is believed to be the one owned by Mr. Issa Njauju who until his death was ACB’s Director of Corporate Services.

The Vehicle or what remained of it should have been recovered a lot sooner to protect evidence.  Even though the car was burnt to ashes by his assailants, the Malawi Police were obligated to have secured the vehicle earlier than they did and they should also have secured the crime scene at Mtsiriza, a suburb on the outskirts of Lilongwe City.

There is no telling if any evidence has been compromised as the community had started vandalizing the wreckage by removing some of the parts.

Matemba told Zodiak Online the wreckage has been taken to a safe location with assistance of the police, but down played fears that the delay might have compromised evidence.

The ACB claimed that the crime scenes had not been compromised. As to the delay of picking up the car, they said, first and foremost you may wish to know that our main interest was the welfare of the family of late Issa Njauju. From the day that we laid to rest our colleague and friend, we have been with the family.

“That was our priority…to mourn with the family. By the way, we had already taken pictures of the wreckage, so nothing has been compromised. That I can assure you”, said Matemba.

Asked how far the investigations into the murder have gone, Matemba said: I would not be in a position to disclose that because as you are aware it is the Malawi Police Service that is doing the investigations, and we wouldn’t want to jeopardize or prejudice the investigations that they are carrying out.

He did not disclose where the wreckage is being kept, only saying the public should be assured that it is the Malawi Police Service and the ACB that have removed it and that it has been kept at a safe place because it might be used at a later stage as evidence.

Another crime scene of focus is a bush behind the Presidential Villas in Lilongwe’s Area 44 where the half-buried body of Mr Njauju was discovered by sand miners on Saturday, July 4.

It still unclear as to whether he was killed at the site or the body was simply dumped there. The body had two gunshot wounds.

Social Media is abuzz that the work of Mr Njauju might have cost him his life. Those that believe there was foul play suspect the ACB and Police will not conduct a serious job of investigation.
