DEDZA-(MaraviPost)-Dedza Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church has pledged commitment towards development of the education sector which it says is in line with the country’s Vision 2063 Agenda.
The Diocese Pastoral Secretary Father Joseph Billiat said this on the sidelines of donation of solar system to Dzenza Community Day Secondary School located in the area of Senior Chief Kaphuka in the district.
Father Billiat said the diocese was concerned with poor performance of learners at the institution which he attributed to as lack of facilities to assist learners during studies.
“This school does not have electricity, as such learners find it difficult during night studies. We therefore decided to come in with the solar system so as to ease the challenge,” said Father Billiat.
He added that the Church expects an improvement in the performance of the learners saying the donation will be a catalyst in grooming learners performance at the institution.
According to Father Billiat, the diocese has been engaging community structures and school management on the need to take care of the solar system.
He added that as part of ensuring sustainability of the donated items, Dzenza Community Day Secondary School has also intensified security checks to ensure that it benefits other learners to come
Commenting on the matter, lawmaker for Dedza Central East Constituency Joshua Malango welcomed the initiative saying it is in line with government’s 2063 Vision Agenda.
“As you are aware, the country is intensifying efforts to ensure that by the year 2063, Malawi should have a self reliant nation; I must commend what Dedza Diocese has done to this school as it will encourage learners participation,” said Malango.
Meanwhile, Energy Minister Ibrahim Matola and Deputy Minister of Education Nancy Chaola Mdooko who graced the occasion have commended the diocese for complimenting government efforts in addressing challenges in schools.
