LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has called upon President Lazarus Chakwera to suspend two cabinet Ministers and Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba paving way for the investigation on suspected fuel and maize fraud.
The two cabinet ministers namely Jacob Hara, Sam Kawale for Transport and Agriculturerespectively.
DPP Secretary General Peter Mukhito told the news conference on Thursday in the capital Lilongwe that “Malawians can not continue to suffer while others are plundering the public resources”.
Mukhito said, “There is more than MK1 trillion deal of fertilizer procurement with international organizations without a proper deal”.
He observed that “It has become a tradition for the Ministers and senior government officials to defraud the government through their dubious deals”.
“Let those that have been mentioned step down just like our own George Chaponda, who paved way for the investigation and was cleared by the court”.
He also condemned the government for using arresting tactics to silence those who are standing up for the country.
Echoing the same, Leader of Opposition George Chaponda also called for the resignation of Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara and 1st Deputy Speaker Madalitso Kazombo.
Chaponda observes that Hara and Kazombo are holding the top positions in the MCP party, which is compromising the deliberations of the August house and its independence.
“Failure for the Speaker and 1st Deputy Speaker’s resignation the opposition side will move an impeachment motion in the next upcoming Parliament session,” said Chaponda .
