BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA) has criticized the government’s taxation policies, describing them as unfavorable economic measures towards the youth.
This remark contradicts a recent statement by Finance Minister Simplex Chithyola Banda, who emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a conducive economic environment for young people.
Bertha Bangara Chikadza, President of ECAMA, expressed her concerns in an interview with MIJ Online, stating that some economic policies, including taxation, favor those already in business rather than young people who want to venture into various businesses.
“The current taxation policies seem to be biased towards established businesses, leaving the youth with limited opportunities to grow their enterprises,” Chikadza said.
Chikadza has therefore called on the government to review some of its economic policies for the benefit of young people.
According to her, this would help create a more level playing field for young entrepreneurs and encourage innovation and economic growth.
The ECAMA president’s comments highlight the need for the government to consider the impact of its economic policies on young people and to develop strategies that support their economic empowerment.
As the country strives to promote economic growth and development, it is essential that the government creates an enabling environment that supports the participation of all citizens, including the youth.
