LILONGWE (MaraviPost)—Barely few weeks after fire gutted Mzuzu Market, fierce fire has again razed Tsoka market in Malawi’s administrative capital Lilongwe Tuesday evening, destroying property worth Millions of Kwachas.  The cause of the fire has not yet established but central region Police spokesperson Ramsy Mushani said police they are investigating.

“We are investigating the cause of the fire.” said Mushani.

A couple of weeks ago, fire also destroyed Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) ware house in Lilongwe. MEC chair Maxon Mbendera said in a statement that they suspected arson. The warehouse had ballot papers from central region which were all destroyed. Among the ballots were from Lilongwe city south east constituency which is still under contention as the court ordered MEC to do a recount of the votes when the loser, Ulemu Msungama of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) complained to court of some foul play.

The winner of the constituency Bently Namasasu obtained an injunction to prevent the exercise and when the issue was taken back to court for the way forward, the MEC warehouse was in flames.
