LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Ministry of Health and Sanitation has dismissed five health practitioners for alleged indiscipline, including absenteeism, corruption, and negligence.

The dismissed officers are John Lukuta, Louis Kinley, Anthony Sikatoleka, Henderson S. Nyirenda, and Festone Kazembe, who worked at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and Zomba Mental Hospital.

According to Ministry spokesperson Benedicto Mbewe, the dismissals followed investigations into allegations of misconduct, including soliciting bribes and reporting to duty under the influence of alcohol.

“The actions of the dismissed officers were found to be contrary to the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct,” Mbewe said.

The Ministry has urged health workers to uphold professionalism and adhere to public service regulations.

“We encourage all health workers to refrain from conduct that contravenes public service regulations and laws,” Mbewe said.

The public has also been encouraged to report any cases of misconduct in public health facilities.

The dismissals are part of efforts to improve accountability and professionalism in Malawi’s health sector.

The dismissed officers include a Principal Radiographer, a Sonographer, a Nurse Midwifery Technician, a Clinical Technician, and an Assistant Rehabilitation Officer.

Their dismissals took effect between December 17, 2025, and February 12, 2026, in accordance with the Malawi Public Service Commission Regulations and the Employment Act.

The Ministry’s action sends a strong message that misconduct will not be tolerated in the health sector.

The move is expected to boost public trust in health services and improve the quality of care.
