Following tradition and as part of the Easter Celebrations and with the powers vested in her, President Dr. Joyce Banda has directed the pardoning of 281 prisoners.
In a press release dated 17th April, from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security, the 281 prisoners who have been pardoned are those who have served at least half of their prison sentences with good behavior and were not convicted of serious offences.
Like her predecessors during public celebrations, like Christmas and Easter Holiday, The President has the power to pardon prisoners and commute their sentences.
