BLANTYRE (Maravipost)–Local artists have once again teamed up to hold a gospel music show aimed a raising funds for Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ) Radio presenter and producer Nicolas Mbonela who has a heart problem.
Mbonela, admitted at the Blantyre Adventist Hospital’s Intensive Unit (ICU) after being diagnosed with Cardiogenic shock, is needing specialist treatment.
With Cardiogenic shock, Mbonela’s heart is failing to pump as much blood as possible or as the body need it.
MIJ Radio is also asking well wishers to support in cash and kind for Mbonela, widely known as Che-Nkope, to travel and access specialist medical attention in South Africa.
Apart from ‘Zilipati’ and ‘Mikoko’ programmes, Mbonela is also well known for his radio cartoon “Nancy vs Che-Nkope”.
He was also part of the ‘Nthumwi’ duo, which also had urban artist Pisky and famed for ‘Sendeza Analysis’ before the latter went solo.
Gospel artists expected to perform at the show, which will place on July 20 at Robin’s Part in Malawi’s commercial capital Blantyre, include Ethel Kamwendo Banda, Khama Khwiliro, Ndirande Anglican Voices, Princess Chitsulo, Patience Namadingo, Limbani Simenti, Aubrey Kusakala, Pisky and Joyful Souls, among other.

This will likely be the second gospel fund-raising show having witnessed a similar initiative in May where local gospel musicians fund-raised for Princes Chitsulo, who also had a heart problem and needed about K3 million to access specialist treatment in South Africa.
