Historical Mwezi wawala video launched in style

Just at the tip of Malawi’s attainment of 50 years of indepedence, a new chapter in the history of music videos was being written in bold at the Limbe Country Club in Blantyre on Saturday.

Yes, it was the launch of the video aspect to the Mwezi Wawala audio, a master celebratory music piece which features 20 of Malawi’s top musicians from all genres.

Thousands came to witness the mark of a super music video era on a big screen spiced up with live performances by the likes of Airtel brand ambassador Piksy, Lucius Banda, Tay Grin, Lulu, Patience Namadingo, Lulu, Faith Mussa, Blackjack, Ethel Kamwendo, Theo Thomson, Code Sangala and Blasto among others.

The video draws its strength on a catchy story line which highlights happiness, celebration and endless possibilities that could be achieved by networking as well as unity. The musicians play roles of common Malawians going about their day to day errands, like a foreman, barber, street sweeper, minibus driver, vendor, teacher, student, plus a lot more.

The high quality video touch adds the much needed gravity that lacks in most local videos.

“With this video, we are invading international leading TV channels like Trace, MTV Base and Channel O and at 50 years as a nation, this Mwezi Wawala music video surely testifies that we have come out of the cacoon with a masterpiece which is destined to set a benchmark in the showbiz industry,” said Taps Bandawe of Audio Vision 360, masterminds of the project.

Powered by Airtel Malawi, the Mwezi Wawala project alone is an anchor of its own lyrics since different audio and video producers took part in the realization of the project.

“As a brand we are committed to promoting arts and we thought it wise as well to celebrate with the nation in this special year. Music connects people and beats many barriers and so, with Mwezi Wawala, it is all about celebrating, connecting and unleashing endless possibilities,” Airtel Malawi’s Managing Director Heikko Schlittke explained.

Meanwhile, Times TV and MBC TV have premiered the Mwezi Wawala music video.
