BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost): –The capital city based soldiers, Kamuzu Barracks, have been crowned Malawi football champions for the first time since they joined the country’s elite league after beating Dwangwa United 4-1 on Saturday at the Chitowe Stadium, Dwangwa.
Harvey Nkacha, Ben Hojani and Manase Chiyesa scored for the KB while Jack Chiona scored for Dwangwa.
Kamuzu Barracks has made history not only for themselves but also for all Malawi Defence clubs for becoming the first military side to grab the prestigious title.
The journey has been very tough and in the first round of the league the lions of Lilongwe struggled and they were not even on the list of potential teams to clinch the title.
Today’s game was a must win for the soldiers as a draw or loss would give chance the defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets a chance to maintain its grip on the title after thrashing Blue Eagles 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium.
Bullets have themselves to blame for losing focus towards the end of the league. They conceded unnecessary defeats. KB have finished with 61 points while the second placed Bullets have 60 points, just one point behind the champs.
Elsewhere, Silver Strikers has finished the league in style by beating MAFCO 1-0 in Lilongwe and Mzuni held Be Forward Wanderers to a 1-all draw.
Blue Eagles’ loss has seen them dropping to position four and Silver Strikers have taken over the third slot.
Teams that have been relegated are Civo United, Karonga United and MTV Max Bullets.
