LONDON-(MaraviPost)-Kemi Badenoch is leaving no stone unturned in her quest to revive the Tory party’s fortunes, taking a hardline stance on international and domestic policy as she campaigns for the upcoming local elections.

The MP has been cramping the country’s style with her bold moves, including considering a ban on the burka as part of a review into tackling extremism, which risks alienating moderate voters.

Badenoch has sharply criticized the UK government for abstaining from a UN resolution recognizing slavery as a “crime against humanity”, arguing that the UK should have voted against it to avoid potential trillions in reparations, sparking heated debate.

On the energy front, Badenoch has launched a new push with her “Fuel Britannia” campaign, calling for the scrapping of “green taxes” and increased North Sea oil and gas drilling to lower energy bills, appealing to voters struggling with the cost of living.

Badenoch officially launched the Conservative local election campaign for the May 7 polls, admitting that the election will be “tough” but framing her party as the only one with a practical plan.

The Conservative leader has been involved in several high-profile parliamentary clashes, including a showdown with Prime Minister Keir Starmer over Iran, pressing Starmer to take stronger military action against Iranian missile sites.

Badenoch has defended Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Timothy after he called public prayers in Trafalgar Square an “act of domination”, stating that such events should not have been allowed and were “exclusionary” toward women.

Despite her efforts, Badenoch’s net favourability rating stands at -25, with 27% of Britons viewing her favourably compared to 52% unfavourably, according to March 2026 YouGov ratings.
