Lawrence Chakakala Chaziya has emerged victorious in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) primary elections held today in Lilongwe Chilobwe constituency.

The closely watched contest saw Chaziya secure an overwhelming 2,223 votes, decisively defeating his only challenger, Gift Ndiwo Banda, who managed to garner just 485 votes.

A total of 15 votes were declared void.

With this victory, Chaziya is now the official MCP candidate for Lilongwe Chilobwe in the upcoming September elections.

His strong performance in the primaries reflects broad support from party members and the local electorate, positioning him as a formidable contender in the forthcoming polls.

The primary elections took place at Nthondo Ground, where party supporters and officials gathered to witness the democratic process.

The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as voting proceeded smoothly, with party structures ensuring a transparent and fair process.

Following the announcement of results, Chaziya expressed gratitude to his supporters for their trust and confidence in his leadership.

He pledged to work diligently to uphold the interests of the people of Lilongwe Chilobwe and to advance the MCP’s vision for development and progress in the area.

His opponent, Gift Ndiwo Banda, conceded defeat and acknowledged the outcome, calling for party unity ahead of the general elections.

He urged MCP supporters to rally behind Chaziya to ensure the party retains a strong presence in the constituency.

As the September elections approach, all eyes will now be on Chaziya as he prepares to face candidates from other political parties.

His resounding victory in the primaries has set the stage for what promises to be an intense political battle in Lilongwe Chilobwe.
