Malawi, Blantyre hotels like Mount Soche coping with water shortages

Blantyre, January 21, 2015: While operations at other institutions have come to a halt due to the intermittent supply of water, officials from some major hotels in Blantyre claim their businesses have not been affected by the situation.

Although public toilets at some hotels like Sunbird Mount Soche and Malawi Sun are not accessible, officials there say the water supplied by the Blantyre Water Board (BWB) was sustaining operations.

At Malawi Sun the water pressure in taps was lower than usual.

Mount Soche Hotel Public Relations Officer Akossa Mphepo told Media Tuesday morning that the shortage had not immensely affected operations because they were still getting water from BWB’s bowsers.

“Although there is water crisis but we are coping up as the hotel is operating in a normal way since we are still getting water using other means and guests are getting services which are needed.

“Let me assure you that the situation is not compromising our service delivery. The little water we are being supplied, we are trying as much as we can to conserve it.

“Unless if the situation continues on and on we will have a different story to tell but what I can say is that the Hotel is looking forward the restoration of the supply,” said Mphepo.

On why public toilets were closed, Mphepo said the toilets are only opened when some activities are taking place at the hotel.
