BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)—Following the termination of the sponsership deal with Puma, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has signed a three-year contract with England-based sportswear manufacturer Umbro to be the official sponsor for the national soccer team.
The sponsorship agreement sees Umbro become the FAM’s official supplier of full technical playing kit and associated sport gear.
As part of the agreement, the football governing body has also entered into a commercial arrangement for Umbro to supply replica national team jerseys for sale to the public.
FAM president Walter Nyamilandu told The Nation Newspaper that the deal was sealed recently, but the launch is set for October 7 when the symbolic signing agreement will be held.
“The agreement means Umbro will be the official technical sponsor of the national soccer team and it entails the supply of football equipment that will include tailor-made uniforms that are currently under production.
“In return, we will be required to order replica jerseys for sale within an agreed period,” said Nyamilandu, adding an initial order of 5,000 replica jerseys, that will be on sale before Flames host Algeria, has already been made.
Nyamilandu has also described terms of the new contract as flexible as compared to that of Puma.
“Generally, they are flexible in terms of expectations. They will also be giving us free complementary sportswear and attire for the Flames and further to that, the equipment sponsorship will extend to other national teams. So, we anticipate a win-win situation,” he said.
