Malawi Government secures $23.5m for development of BWB’s new supply source

According to reporting, The Mutharika Government has signed a 23.5 million dollar Line of Credit with the Exim Bank of India, for the Blantyre Water Project.

Malawi’s High Commissioner to India, Dr Isaac Munlo signed the agreement on behalf of the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development Goodall Gondwe.

Munlo said the agreement has come at a right time considering the challenges Blantyre Water Board is facing in providing portable water to the city and surrounding areas.

Munlo said the money will be used for the construction of the new water supply project from Likhubula River in Mulanje to Blantyre.

On his part, Chairperson and Managing Director for Exim Bank of India, Yaduvendra Mathur, commended Malawi for coming up with this important project.
Mathur pledged total support towards the implementation of the project.

Malawi has previously accessed Line of Credit from Exim Bank of India and utilized these for various projects including the construction of the fuel storage facilities in the three regions of Malawi, the Greenbelt project and construction of the sugar factory in Salima.
