LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government through Ministry of Health has put on hold plans of administering mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations which was slated from January, 2022 to frontline workers who include health care workers, journalists and security officers.

Minister responsible Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda said mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations will be rolled out across the country to increase uptake of the vaccines after observing that many are shunning the vaccines.

The Ministry’s Spokesperson, Adrian Chikumbe is quoted in the media having said the Ministry is in the process of getting feedback from the citizenry on the enforcement of mandatory COVID-19 vaccines and thereafter, it will consult the Office of the Attorney General for direction.

In view of this, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa, Rodgers Kamphangala, has accused government of announcing plans to administer mandatory COVID-19 vaccination without consulting the citizens.

Kamphangala faulted the Minister of Health that in the first place she announced that vaccinations will not be mandatory, saying it will be to one’s choice asking her to tell Malawians the truth behind mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations.

He said by now many Malawians would have received the COVID-19 vaccines had it been that government was quick to dismiss conspiracy theories associated with the pandemic and the vaccines saying it has contributed to low uptake of the vaccines.

The supporter reminded government on alleged news stories of government faking figures of COVID-19, doctors cashing MK100,000 for certifying death due to COVID-19

“Today, Malawians are shunning the vaccines because of the gap in information sharing between government and the citizenry,” said Kamphangala.

Kamphangala has again called upon President Chakwera not to trust his inner circle saying is planning for his downfall observing .

He observed that by holding mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations is clearly speaking for itself that government is afraid of its citizens from being against it.

Kamphangala therefore advised government to learn to always consult citizens in matters affecting people.
