Malawi Human Rights Commission against refugees’ relocation to Dzaleka camp

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has advised President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse administration to slow down on its decision of relocation of asylum seekers and refugees from towns and communities to Dzaleka camp.

MHRC stands comes barely a few days after Homeland security ministry ordered relocation of refugees till April 15, 2023.

Addressing the news conference on Thursday, April 6, 2023 in the capital Lilongwe organised by Inua Advocacy, a local charity MHRC remains stand to its decision against relocation to Dzaleka until government address human rights issues happening at the camp.

Inua Advocacy is charitable organisation that advocates for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers in the country.

MHRC observes that there are numerous human abuses at the camp that can not accommodate more refugees.

Human rights violation at the camp including sexual abuses, poor sanitation, child labour, trafficking, molestation and among others.

The commission says until human rights violation are addressed, more refugees can be relocated.
