.…Charles Mhango vows thorough scrutiny of domestic and German investigation findings before advising national leadership
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s Minister of Justice, Charles Mhango, has confirmed that by the end of this week, he will have completed reviewing all investigation reports related to the plane crash that claimed the life of former Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight others in Chikangawa, Mzimba.
Speaking on today’s edition of the program Kulinji, Mhango explained that he had summoned the relevant reports concerning the accident and began examining them last Friday.
He noted that among the three reports he received, he has now completed reviewing the first, which was issued by the German investigative body, BFU, and is currently analyzing the report of the investigation conducted locally in Malawi.
Mhango added that he will then proceed to examine the final BFU report before finalizing his assessment.
According to the Minister, once all reports have been fully reviewed, he will provide his recommendations to the Head of State, advising whether a further investigation is necessary or if no additional inquiry is required.
When asked about initial findings, Mhango said he could not comment extensively at this stage, but he observed that several individuals who were invited to provide evidence to the investigation committee either refused to attend or submitted their testimony under apparent fear.
The Justice Minister assured Malawians that all reports are being scrutinized with professionalism and that his guidance to the national leadership will be impartial and based strictly on technical evidence, without bias.
The President, immediately after being briefed, emphasized that he would await the Minister’s professional advice before making any decision on whether a subsequent investigation should be launched.
