In his efforts to reconnect with mother Malawi after a 17 year long stay in the US, musician Tiwonge Mhango over the weekend stormed Bwaila in Lilongwe to plant trees.
“It’s sad to see our country going bare, we need to be environmental friendly people by among other things making tree planting exercises as a habit,” said Mhango who received a warm welcome by locals in Bwaila.
According to Tiwonge, his coming to Malawi makes him appreciate the roots of his life adding that he would love to establish a Tiwonge Mhango Foundation in the near future.
Among other things, the community of Bwaila gave Tiwonge a treat of traditional dances like Gulewankulu.
“There’s more happiness in giving than in receiving. I want to share with others and perhaps make their lives better. I would like to make life full of meaning, purpose and impact to others,” he explained.
The Atlanta based artist cum business person has expressed interest to promote Malawi music and he has since cut a single ‘Mbuye’ with charismatic rappper Young Kay and is available for download on www.malawi-music.com
