Malawi National Commission for UNESCO up with outreach storytelling tour

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi National Commission for UNESCO ( MNCU) says will start an outreach storytelling tour this month aimed at providing Malawians with access to stories that have been passed down through generations

According to a statement that has been signed by Christopher Magomelo who is Senior Assistant Executive Secretary for the organization, the storytelling tour is targeting 13 districts of the country

Magomelo said that the tour involves the screening of folktales, folksongs, and digitized historical footage in communities.

“The outreach is starting on 30th October 2023 and will feature a screening of footage of folktales that were filmed in the 13 districts as well as digitized historical footage that provides a glimpse into Malawi’s past,” he said.

The outreach story talking tour is part of the safeguarding Malawian Folktales and Folksongs through documentation and transmission, Re-Housing, and Digitization of 16mm film at the National Records and Archives Services of Malawi projects which is being implemented together with Rei Foundation Limited

The tour was expected to be launched at Chiwalo Village, Tradition Authority (T.A)Liwonde in Machinga District on 30th October 2023

After the launch, the Malawi National Commission for UNESCO will take the tour to other districts like Zomba, Phalombe, Thyolo, Chikwawa, Nsanje, Mchinji, Kasungu, Dowa, Dedza, Karonga, Rumphi and Nkhatabay
