MZUZU (MaraviPost) – Malawi President Peter Mutharika may have never really wanted to get married to Gertrude Hendrina Maseko. He simply wanted to clear out mysteries of his bachelorhood, MaraviPost understands.
“I think all the mystery [about my being single] is gone. I’m a family man now,” said Mutharika at Ndata Farm in Thyolo where a grand reception of their wedding, officiated at St Michael’s & All Angels CCAP in Blantyre, was held.
Mutharika’s bachelorhood kept on ruffling a lot feathers including allegations that sprouted out in local media that he was gay. He had fervently refuted the allegations.
“Peter Mutharika is not gay, has never been gay and will never be gay and only God is my witness,” he had told sensational tabloid Malawi Voice.
Mutharika, who revealed Saturday that he had been a widower for about twenty five years, hinted that he was equally surprised that he was getting married again.
“I never thought I would get married again,” he said.
He joked: “A lot of women across the world have tried [to seduce me to no avail].” According to him, his relationship with Gertrude was four years old.
Mutharika described the new first lady as “a great lady. A very religious lady.”
