BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi President Peter Mutharika’s governing Democrats Progressive Party (DPP) is pushing one of its cadets Rev Billy Gama to be Chairman of a quasi religious body the Public Affair Committee (PAC) when it goes for the polls next week.

We can reveal that the party is dishing out millions of kwachas to delegates who will vote at PAC annual general and elective assembly slated for December 18, 2019 for Gama’s candidature.

It is an open secret that Rev Gama is a well known DPP cadet and the party funded his campaign early this year to become Secretary General for the Blantyre Synod of the CCAP church.

“We are leaving no stone unturned. If we have Gama at PAC then we will control narrative of things since PAC is an all inclusive organization and is credible, ” said an insider at the heart of the Gama campaign.

Other PAC members also confirmed that Rev Gama has started campaign which has surprised many in the organization.

“Rev Gama is pushing his campaign in all fronts and it is a very expensive campaign. People are being given huge sums of money to support his candidature.”

“But this is sad because PAC is not a political organization and where we are going it will be used by politicians and will eventually lose its credibility,” said a senior PAC member who asked for anonymity.

Gama confirmed being interested in the PAC chairperson position but saw nothing wrong being supported by the DPP.

“If wellwishers want to support my campaign, I cannot say no. I am running a campaign and I need resources,” said Gama.

He refused to take more questions on the matter.

During the Blantyre Synod elections, Rev Gama was openly supported by DPP gurus which included cabinet ministers like Nicholas Dausi.

PAC has been an influential organization since the advent of plural politics in the country and has membership from various faith organizations in the country.

Recently PAC has been mediating between the opposition and government over the disputed presidential elections results of May 2019.
