BLANTYRE(MaraPost)—The Anti-Corruption Bureu(ACB) has arrested an Agriculture Extension Worker Development Officer for Chamama EPA in the central district of Kasungu for allegedly demanding money from beneficiaries of the Farm Inputs Subsidy Programme.
The Bureau received complaints alleging that the suspect, identified as Flemmings Chiteya, demanded money from the potential beneficiaries in 2010 when they conduct verification exercise for the programme.
ACB then instituted investigations which confirmed the allegation, and arrested Chiteya last Tuesday the 6th of May, 2014, two years after receiving the complaints.
ACB Senior Public Relations Officer, Egrita Ndala said he was taken Kasungu Magistrate Court where he was charged with two counts of corrupt practices by public officer contray to Section 24(1) of the Corrupt Practices Act.
He was however released on bail on own surety of K30, 000.00 none cash and one surety bonded at K20, 000.00 none cash as well.
Chiteya will appear in court on 27th May, 2014 for commencement of trial,according to Ndala.
