Blantyre march on violence against women halted over security lapses

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The peaceful march that was supposed to take place in Blantyre failed to take place as refused to provide security to demonstrators.

According to Ulemu Kanyongolo who is the founder and president of young feminist network,due to police relacant to provide security to the matchers they just decided to hold a rally at Old town hall.

Kanyongolo further said that as women rights activist they want perpetrators of violence against women to face Justice.

Citing Nsundwe saga and also that recently a woman was stripped naked in Blantyre and also in Mzuzu where a lady was heavily harassed by some people.

Lisa Tembo a representative of Center for Human Rights, Education, Advice and Assistance (CHREAA) said that they are equally concerned with rising number of violence against women.

It is alleged that the police prohibited the march due to tension that is in country ahead of Presidential Electoral Case ruling scheduled for Monday, February 3, 2020.

Young feminist network, CHREAA,HRDC, move,Lite,Pepeta were some of those who organized the halted march.
