BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Former Chairperson of the cultural grouping Mulhakho wa Alhomwe, Muchanakhwaye Mpuluka, is in the hands of Mangochi Police for allegedly shooting a secret lover to his girlfriend.
According to Mangochi Police Station deputy spokesperson, Mpuluka, 39, shot the man whom he found at his girlfriend’s house with a STEYA M9-A1 rifle twice, injuring him in on the right foot in the process.
The incident occurred at Mwanyama Village in Mangochi on Wednesday night, the police report indicates.
The victim has been identified as Edward Mbalasa, 35, of Mapira Village, T/A Mponda in the district.
According to the crime report, Mbalasa is in a love affair with Vanilla Makhuli, 25, a nurse who works at Mangochi District Hospital, who is also in a relationship with Mpuluka.
The report elaborates that on Wednesday night, Mpuluka arrived at his girlfriend’s house, only to find the victim chatting with the woman inside her bedroom.
Daudi said in the course of the confrontation, Mpuluka fired some gunshots, injuring the victim.
It is also documented in the report that the former Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Chairperson, fired three times at Mbalasa’s Suzuki Swift motor vehicle registration number BW 3417 damaging it in the process before he left the crime scene.
Mbalasa was treated as an outpatient at Mangochi District Hospital.
Daudi confirmed that police found two empty cartilages on the scene have since recovered the rifle.
Mpuluka handed himself over to Police on Thursday morning and he will appear in court today to face charges of acts intending to cause grievous harm and malicious damage.
Mpuluka hails from Mlotho Village Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba District, Makhuli is from Laiti Village Traditional Authority, Bvumbwe in Thyolo District while the victim (Mbalasa) comes from Mapira Village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
Mpuluka can be well remembered for his seven-days ultimatum to the former Member of Parliament for Mulanje West Patricia Kaliati to apologize to the Lomwes, over the remarks she made during a rally at Masintha ground in Lilongwe when she parted ways with the then ruling Democratic Progressive Party and joined formed Chilima movement.
At the rally, Kaliati alleged that Paramount Chief Ngolongoliwa pioneered the Chilima Movement, to usher Vice President Saulos Chilima into power in 2019.
