LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Following Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) call on duty free week, Songwe boarder has so far cleared 40 vehicles which were stack for failing to pay duty.
MRA Commissioner General,John Bizwick said the removal of tax during the week has helped people to get their vehicles
Bizwick said the authority believe that more vehicles will be cleared in the duty free week.
In the fight of goods smuggling MRA plans to buy drones that will be monitoring things on the grounds.
He said the 5 drones are expected to cost MK55 million sponsored by world bank.
In his remarks chairperson for the committee, Shadrek Namalomba said duty free week was placed in a wrong month.
Namalomba calls MRA to rescheduled the month next time to enable people to clear their goods easily.
Duty free week commenced on January 23 and is expected to end on January 29, 2022.
