Malawi’s National Roads Authority owing constructors MK14bn

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The National Roads Authority (NRA) is owing constructors MK14 billion due to the delay of payment by roads fund.

NRA Chief Executive Officer,Francis Dim disclosed on Thursday, February 2, 2022 during the meeting with Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Dim said roads funds is suppose to talk with the ministry of finance to release funds for the contractors.

He said the authority is expected to start constructing Lumbadzi -Chiweta road as all the paperwork has been finalised.

The said constructors is Monta-angil among others.

In his remarks Ben Phiri who was chairing the committee on behalf of Chairperson said NRA favours Monta-angil in most of its work.

He said the committee will be looking forward to NRA to speed up payment of constructors to speed up several construction work which are on hold due to payment.

He has asked the authority to timely give money to constructors to avoid arrears as the amount was at MK52 billion and has been revised after they have been slowly paying back.
