
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The much awaited Malawi’s Presidential election case ruling will be delivered on Monday, February 3, 2020 starting 09:00 hours at the Constitutional Court in the capital Lilongwe.
In a brief court document made available to The Maravi Post, High Court Registrar, Agnes Patemba expects involved party in the case to accept the verdict.
Matemba however appealed calm ahead of pronouncement of the ruling “since there will be losers of the case, people should remember the option of appeal in the Supreme Court and not resort to violence”
The panel of five judges comprised of Healey Potani, Ivy Kamanga, Dingiswayo Madise, Redson Kapindu and Mike Tembo that concluded hearing the matter on December 20, 2019 is expected to deliver the verdict on 3 February 2020 around 9:00 hours at Lilongwe District Registry of the High Court of Malawi.
She added that all parties involved in this case are expected to appear in court on this day.
These include the two petitioners comprising of the two the presidential candidates in the May 21 2019 Tripartite Elections—UTM Party’s Saulos Chilima (the first petitioner) and Malawi Congress Party candidate Lazarus Chakwera (the second petitioner) who wanted the court to nullify presidential election results over alleged irregularities, especially in the results management system and Incumbent respondents; President Peter Mutharika of Democratic Progressive Party, who was declared winner of the elections and Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) as the second respondent.
High Court registrar has also asked those who have not accredited to be available at the high court on this day to remain in their respective homes and offices.
