MCP cabinet ministers up with Boma Lathu platform for public engagement

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Cabinet Ministers have come up with Boma Lathu platform with the aim of creating dialogue between Malawians and them on issues of national interest.

The minister of information, Moses Kunkuyu, made this comment on Friday the 31, 2025 while inaugurating the first platform in Lilongwe at Golden Peakok Hotel.

Five ministers occupied the first platform, which including Vera Kamtukule, Sosten Gwengwe, Vitumbiko Mumba and Samuel Kawale for Tourism, Trade, Labour and Agriculture respectively.

Through an open line and social media platform, the Minister of Information, who hosted the program allowed ministers to take questions from the general public.

Kamtukule, was the first to speak and stated that her ministry closed government facilities, such as the Malawi Tourism Industry (MIT) to demonstrate cleanliness and uphold legal principles in the tourism industry.

Kamtukule mentioned that tourism is one of the country’s forex generators and it requires compassionate treatment to safeguard the lives of Malawians and citizens.

Taking his turn, Kawale assured Malawians that fertilizer trucks have been loaded in several districts, even though the delivery was delayed.

He However, believes that the fertilizer will not meet its intended purpose due to the delays in rainfall in certain areas.

Kawale mentioned quickly that the fertilizer delay was caused by conflicts in Mozambique, which were preventing several trucks from reaching the country.

As part of mission on trade and private sector development, Gwengwe announced that his ministry will continue to seal shops and business centers that are trading outside of the law.

According to Gwengwe, his ministry is a rule-based organization that deals with the use of rules.

He mentioned working with the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) to monitor the country’s market, as it is not the responsibility of Malawians to verify expiration dates in stores.

Taking his turn, Mumba stressed the importance of safeguarding citizens and has joined forces with the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) and other organizations to oversee the lives of workers and the cleanliness of business centers.

The ministry of information will carry on with the program and they have requested Malawians to choose the ministers they would like to interact with at the next Boma lathu platform to answer questions, including the president.
