Meet new Malawi Central bank Governor, Dr. Wilson Banda

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s new President Lazarus Chakwera on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 appointed Wilson Banda, a former central bank official, as its new Reverse Bank of Malawi’s (RBM) governor.

Dr Banda appointment comes after President Chakwera fired former Governor of Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Dalitso Kabambe.

The development comes barely a week after the social media was awash with reports of Kabambe’s fired but the latter trashed the reports.

Kabambe served as governor from 2017 to June 2020

So, who is Dr Wilson Banda?

Dr Wilson Banda is a Malawian, reputable teacher educator, author, classroom practitioner, researcher and educational consultant with prodigious passion on  action research, educational management, inclusive education and the instruction of Language Arts.

Wilson was General Manager of the Reserve Bank of Malawi from 2003 to 2010.

Banda was a senior advisor to the Executive Director for Africa Group at the World Bank, where he started as an advisor in 2010.

He also served as the Director of the Malawi Stock Exchange, a member of the Economics Association of Malawi, and a chairman for both the Malawi Knowledge Network (MAKNET) and Malawi Payments Systems.

Wilson earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Manchester.

He also holds an MPA from Harvard University and an M.Phil in Monetary Economics from the University of GLASGOW.
