Ministry urges District Information Officers to leverage devolution for enhanced public services

The Ministry of Information and Digitalization has urged District Information Officers (DIOs) to utilize their functions devolution to local assemblies to enhance public information services.

Secretary for the Ministry of Information and Digitalization, Baldwin Chiyamwaka, emphasized that decentralization will improve timely implementation of interventions and coordination among stakeholders.

Chiyamwaka made the remarks during an orientation for DIOs and District Commissioners in Mponela, highlighting the significance of devolution in promoting access to information and enhancing public services.

The devolution of DIOs to Local Government Assemblies (LGAs) aims to bring information services closer to the communities, enabling them to access timely and relevant information.

Salima District Commissioner, James Mwenda, noted that the devolution of information offices will make it easier for communities to access information on various issues affecting them.

Mwenda’s sentiments underscore the potential impact of devolution on improving the lives of Malawians by ensuring that information reaches the grassroots level.

Zomba DIO Solister Mogha welcomed the devolution, stating that it was long overdue.

Mogha’s remarks highlight the need for effective information dissemination at the local level, where communities can access vital information that affects their daily lives.

The Ministry of Information and Digitalization is mandated to provide policy direction and guidance in the production and dissemination of public information, as well as coordinate and manage ICT development and services.
