Lilongwe, February 8: President Prof. Peter Mutharika is today, Sunday, February 8, leading the nation in the Interdenominational Memorial Service of Worship for flood victims.
The service which is under the theme, “God is Our Refuge and Strength, a Very Present Help in Trouble” takes place at Robins Park near Kwacha Roundabout in Blantyre according to a press statement signed by acting Presidential Press Secretary, Timpunza Mwansambo at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
“The President will partake in the second reading of the Holy Scriptures (John 11:25-27) after which he will lead the congregation in observing a minute of silence for those who lost their lives to the floods,” reads the statement in part.
According to the statement, the floods have left 176 people confirmed dead with 153 gone missing and slightly more than two hundred thousand people displaced.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Church has dedicated prayers on the same date in all its dioceses nationwide to the flood victims, donating all of the offering collections of the day to the victims.
