NAC says Refunds can only be funneled through Treasury

1 Min Read

National Aids Commission (NAC) has turned down BEAM trust refund amounting to MK5 million donated by friends of the trust.

The trust’s well-wishers led by Chinsinga tried to refund the money at a ceremony held at Pacific Hotel in the capital city Lilongwe.

In his speech, Chinsinga said the grouping has decided to refund the money to avert the planned demonstrations by CSOs by mobilizing funds to refund NAC on behalf of Beam.

“If these demonstrations do go ahead, people should realise that businesses do fall apart and it is this [aspect] which we do not want to see because so much money is lost”, said Chinsinga.

Reacting to the news, NAC board chairperson Kumbweza Banda told the group to go through treasury if it wants the money returned or refunded.

Meanwhile it is not known as to whether these CSOs will go on with their planned demonstrations.
