In a bid to promote youth empowerment and self-reliance, the Neno District Council has handed over various assets worth K38 million to 111 youth who graduated from the Neno Integrated Youth Development Centre.
The assets include 40 pigs, 200 bags of pig feed, 80 bags of chicken feed, and 400 ducklings, as well as maize and soya bean seeds.
Speaking during the certificate and asset handover ceremony, Neno District Commissioner Rosemary Nawasha urged the youth to utilize the assets effectively to improve their livelihoods and create employment opportunities for others.
Nawasha emphasized that the council’s goal is to empower the youth to become self-reliant and contribute to the district’s development.
Ian Sukali, Neno District Youth Officer, echoed Nawasha’s sentiments, stating that the council’s objective is to enable youth to become self-sufficient through initiatives like the National Youth Service program. Sukali highlighted the importance of equipping youth with relevant skills to drive development in the district.
One of the beneficiaries, Madalitso Namaona, expressed gratitude for the assets, promising to make the most of the opportunity.
Namaona vowed to ensure that the assets benefit his life and create employment opportunities for other youth in the future.
