CASABLANCA-(MaraviPost)-Nigeria moved a step closer to the knockout stages of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after surviving a late scare to defeat Tunisia 3–2 in an entertaining Group C clash played on 27 December 2025.
The Super Eagles started the match with authority and were rewarded midway through the first half when Victor Osimhen broke the deadlock, rising highest to put Nigeria ahead and ignite celebrations among the green-white faithful.
Nigeria continued to dominate proceedings and doubled their advantage through Wilfred Ndidi, whose well timed finish capped off a strong midfield display and left Tunisia struggling to cope with the tempo.
Before the break, Nigeria thought they had put the contest beyond reach.
Ademola Lookman made it 3–0, punishing Tunisia’s defensive lapse and giving the Super Eagles a commanding cushion.
However, Tunisia refused to surrender. Early in the second half, Montassar Talbi pulled one back for the Carthage Eagles, shifting momentum and giving his side renewed belief.
The match took another dramatic twist when VAR ruled that Bright Osayi-Samuel had handled the ball in the box.
Tunisia were awarded a penalty, which Ali Abdi calmly converted to reduce the deficit to 3–2.
The final minutes were tense as Tunisia pressed for an equaliser but Nigeria’s defence held firm to secure a crucial victory in a match full of drama and momentum swings.
With this result, Nigeria have now won two matches in Group C, collecting six points from two games and placing themselves in a strong position to qualify for the Round of 16.
Tunisia, the defeat leaves them with one win from two group matches, remaining on three points and under pressure heading into their final group fixture.
