LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Minister of Energy, Ibrahim Matola has called on Malawians stop vandalising ESCOM transformers and machineries saying is the main catalyst to frequent blackouts.

Addressing the news conference on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 in the capital Lilongwe, Matola claims that former ESCOM employees are behind vandalism.

He said vandalism is costly and affects the countries economy.

Matola said the country’s load shedding will continue as Kapichira is still under rehabilitation.

He said the country is still recovering from 129 megawatts loss that occurred due to cyclone ANA.

The minister disclosed that current deficit supply of 333 Megawatts despite project demands for 2022 of 618 megawatts.

ESCOM Chief executive officer, Kamkwamba Kumwenda said the blackouts will not improve for now until kapichira is rehabilitated.

He said they are waiting for ENGECO to rehabilitate the site by December.
