NYNCC teams up Malawian youths on climate change ahead of Paris’ COPs 21

National Youth Network on Climate Change (NYNCC), a grouping of young people has intensified its sore searching task in getting views from its members across the nation on what terra made programs needed for incorporation into Malawi government position a head of this year’s Conference of Parties (COPs) 21 slated for December7-8, 2015 in Paris, France.

 

Malawi has been attending such conferences for many years now through the representative from governmental officials, youth groups, civil society organization, (CSOs), activists and the media on how best the nation can benefit on climate change protocols and agreements set for least and developing countries.

 

 

With funding Global Green Grants Funds (GGGF), NYNCC organized an interface meeting on Wednesday in the capital Lilongwe to solicit views and ideas from youth groups’ leader drawn across the nation on how best young can directly benefits from COPs agreements and protocols.

 

Speaking in an interview with the Maravi Post, Dominic Nyasulu NYNCC National Coordinator expressed optimism that views gotten from youth leaders will bring outstanding strategies towards Malawian youth with practical climate change adaptation programs.

 

“Young people are integral part on any decision government makes as we constitute large percentage of the population therefore ignoring their wishes and inspirations its killing the nation.

 

“Although there is much politics in the whole COPs’ financial agreements towards in poor countries like Malawi youths’ input into this global phenomenon of climate change was not exceptional this time around.

 

“What Malawian youths and the rest of Africa are tangible and comprehensive adaptation programs which they directly benefit through provision of jobs related to climate change impact intervention with full fledged technical and financial support”, recommends Nyasulu.

 

Later, The Maravi Post caught up with Evans Njewa, Principal Environmental Officer and Desk office Coordinator on Climate Change in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining saying this year’s COPs in Parish will focus on how young people can directly involved in the conference’ outcomes that adaptation measures put forward were assimilated in their programming.

 

“Youths remain important to any serious government this is the reason we are appealing to more youth groups to attend this year’s COPs 21 than the previous years because we have realized their usefulness in the implementation of climate change adaptation measures.

 

“Since Malawi started attending these type of conferences, several climate change adaptation programs have been launched in many areas across nation where climate change variation are witnessed such as unreliable rainfall patterns, floods, dry spells and hailstorms.

 

“Among practical COPs protocol and agreements outcome Malawi is enjoying includes Climate Change Adaptation for Rural Live hood, Smart agriculture and early sign warning systems which are multi-million dollar projects.

 

“Through COPs the country has also managed to secure bilateral agreements with governments of Norway and German by providing technical and financial support on how best the Malawi can fight effects of climate change”, delighted Njewa who is also a Climate Change Negotiator for Malawi and other Africa’s developing nations.

 

This year’s COPs 21 will be held together with Sustainable Innovation Forum (SIF15); the largest business-focused side event on December 7-8, 2015 at the State de France in the Le Bourget area of Paris.

 

The conference is expected convening 750+ cross-sector participants from business, Government, investors, UN, NGO and civil society which opportunity to bolster business innovation in the climate change arena, accelerating international sustainable development and bring scale to low carbon innovation and creating dialogue, enable collaboration and showcase game-changing solutions to climate challenges while featuring 80+ foremost expert speakers, high level plenary sessions, interactive panel debates, workshops, cultural components and enhanced networking opportunities.
