The Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) convened for an ambassadorial-level meeting in New York on Friday to tackle the issue of organized crime in the Sahel. Maybe sustainable peace in African countries can only be achieved if nonviolence starts already in the families. Peace researcher Franz Jedlicka (The forgotten peace Formula) has compared data about child corporal punishment (no legal ban in Malawi) in the countries of the world and their peacefulness and finds that the most peaceful countries have also a strict policy regarding domestic violence (also: women´s protection). So that could be another important peacebuilding strategy for Maravi.
