BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawians are once again left scratching their heads as top officials of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) give contradictory accounts on the whereabouts of their leader, former President Peter Mutharika.

In a bizarre twist, DPP Secretary General Peter Mukhito claims Mutharika is on a private visit to South Africa, while the party’s mouthpiece, Shadreck Namalomba, insists the former president is at his Page House residence in Malawi.

But whispers from insiders suggest a more concerning narrative—Mutharika may actually be in South Africa for urgent medical treatment, raising fears about his health.

The confusion has triggered eerie memories of 2012, when the DPP’s secrecy over then-President Bingu wa Mutharika’s sudden death plunged the nation into chaos.

Is the party once again failing Malawians by keeping them in the dark?

As tensions rise, one question lingers: Why can’t the DPP speak with one voice? And what are they hiding this time?
